New England Ratepayers Association

The New England Ratepayers Association (NERA) claimed to be the “voice of families and businesses served by regulated utilities,” but its lobbying and regulatory advocacy often aligned with the interests of investor-owned utilities and the fossil fuel industry. NERA has been dormant in recent years, but its president and only paid employee, Marc Brown, now works with HBW Resources, the lobbying firm behind the Consumer Energy Alliance.

NERA had close ties to New Hampshire’s Republican Governor Chris Sununu and his family, which has a long legacy of climate science denial and opposition to clean energy policies.

NERA also had ties to the natural gas and utility industries.
